My buddy had an old junk turbo compressor just sitting around his garage, so I decided to powdercoat it for a little extra practice. Well, I got anxious and just decided to hand sand the previously sprayed yellow paint off it instead of blasting it. I wanted to try out this new candy gold powder I had just got, so I went to town.
It didn’t look like it coated very well in some places, and no matter how hard I tried, it just wouldn’t stick to some spots. I threw it in the oven for 15 mins at 400deg. This is what I got when I took it out.
My thought is that even though I cleaned the turbo fairly well before spraying it, there might have still been some oil left on it. You can feel the coating all around the turbo, but it’s more of a **** clear color than a candy gold.
Any advice would be much appreciated thanks!
p.s. remember this was not for a “customer,” it was just for a newb like me to play around and coat something new.
