Hi all. I have a small table-top sand blasting cabinet. I have not yet purchased any abrasives because I was hoping to get some advice first.

I would like to take underhood parts, most made of aluminum, and use the blaster to bring these parts back to their original appearance. I had the chance to use a friend’s cabinet that had Aluminum Oxide in it, and was great at getting rust off several steel brackets, but was badly pitting the metal and ruining the original appearance.

I have read about crushed Walnuts shells as a mild abrasive, and also plastic bead media.

Please let me know your thoughts on the least abrasive media that will still get the parts looking like new, but won’t damage or pit the surface in any way.

    thanks!
