I got a nice cast iron x-mas tree stand off of ebay. I wanted to blast it and powder coat it. Before I do that i wanted to take out the three long eye bolts that are used to hold the tree. One of them is a little rusted and stuck.
Normally, this would get a shot of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil), a set overnight and it should come right out. As long as I clean well afterward with a strong de-greaser to get the oil off, is this okay? Will it interfere with the powder coating later? Is there a particularly “safer” oil I should use, or a different method since it’s going to be coated?
Thanks!
