I have a ’55 Buick that has been sitting in a field for 40+ years. We have begun restoration but are up to the gas tank and the tank is rusty but has no holes. The tank did have liquid fuel in it. It has been drained and the sending unit was removed.
Upon inspection, we found quite a bit of surface rust. A hole has been cut in the tank to accept an in-tank fuel pump for the LS motor fuel injection. The sump will be welded in and the next step will be to remove the rust (chemically?) and seal the tank to prevent future rust.
How do I go forward? Do you have products for this issue?
