I have a frame completely disassembled ready to paint. My problem is that on about 1/4 of the frame there is some rust. I plan on sanding the frame down to bare metal. Should I apply an acid that will leave a zinc phosphate coating, or can I prime right over the bare metal. I’m worried about rust returning. I will use DP90 Epoxy primer/sealer. My plan is to paint the frame with bc/cc. My steps are as follows, is this correct?
1. Sand and grind to bare metal
2. Rinse with water, apply PRE
3. Epoxy Primer/Sealer
4. Top coat with BC/CC
I have some Rust Encapsulator laying around that I had originally planned on using over this rusty area. Should I still use it to prevent future rust or will the epoxy primer/sealer seal it up pretty good.
thanks for the help,
Jon
