In a few days the machining work will be done on my 2.0L Rav4 bare block. It will have been hot tanked so the surface will be free of paint and should not be rusted. Colorado has very little moisture in the air.

In that I have a second engine (stroked 5.7L SMC) in the same state, that I will want to be more a show quality, I felt I could practice on the Toyota motor.

On this site I’ve read about the Eastwood engine paint. I believe the orginal color of the Toyota was gloss black. Correct me if I’m wrong. My question is around the prep. I read an article on this sight that involved several prep steps some of which seemed to be optional. And it sounded like the engine being addressed was maybe still in the car.

In that the head is aluminum I plan to mask the deck. I would paint the pan the same color but maybe seperately. The front of the engine and the expansion plug holes need to be masked as well.

I would appreciate any help you may have.

    Thanks.
