Newbie question about plugging "through-holes"

    Not sure what the correct term is but here is an example.

    I am coating an alternator blade/fan and the shaft goes through the middle. I used a high-temp plug for the hole and the powder “crunched” (for lack of a better word) around the hole. i am assuming it built up around the hole and when I pulled the plug it had nothing to attach itself to. Now I realize I could have hung this part from the hole instead of plugging it. But these are practice parts so I want to know how to tackle this for future parts.
