Does everyone mask off gasket surfaces or does it matter? For instance I’m getting ready to shoot a timing chain cover. It’s been a real pain masking off the thin, contoured rail that provides the gasket seating surface between the cover and the engine block.

Would the PC prevent the gasket from sealing or throw off machining tolerances?

Do you think that it is important to leave the surface bare metal? There is a lot of pitting form corrosion. I was thinking the PC might actually help fill in the pits and provide a smoother surface.

Any suggestions for masking intricate areas such as these?

    Thanks,
    Ben
