I keep getting asked to coat portions of alloy wheels. I cannot believe I am the only one getting asked to do this, but I have a couple of issues with doing it that I have not been able to solve, so I thought I would see who else has been dealing with this.
All the wheels I have seen have a clearcoat finish to keep the wheel bright. Removing the finish from the portion to be coated is easy enough, but what happens to the rest of the wheel when you bake it? I would think the finish would yellow, crack, and/or peel?
If you go ahean and remove the entire wheel’s clearcoat, without intending to coat the entire wheel, how do you remove it without damaging the underlaying finish on the wheel?
Thanks to anyone who has run into this before.
